As I reflect on my recent experience attending meetings with the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity and the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, one phrase kept echoing in my mind: 'Peace be with you.' It is a phrase that resonates deeply within the Catholic Church, particularly when it comes to its relations with other Christian denominations.

During our meetings, we discussed the complexities surrounding the Orthodox Church in Ukraine. The Moscow Patriarchate is often criticized for being corrupt and propping up an immoral dictator in Putin. This has led many to question the legitimacy of the Orthodox Church's authority in Ukraine. In response, Pope Francis has been working towards reconciliation with the Orthodox Churches.

One of the key issues at hand is the creation of a new Kyiv Patriarchate. Many Ukrainians see this as a way to establish a sole legitimate continuation of the old patriarchate in Kyiv. However, opposition comes mainly from Moscow, citing corruption and ties to Putin as reasons for their disapproval.

As we navigated these complex issues, I couldn't help but think about the power of unity. The Catholic Church has long been committed to promoting Christian unity, and it is heartening to see this commitment in action. The Vatican's recognition of the Moscow Patriarchate as the official Orthodox Church of Ukraine is a testament to its efforts towards ecumenical dialogue.

In the midst of these discussions, I was struck by the beauty of the Catholic prayer: 'Lord Jesus Christ, who said to your Apostles: Peace I leave you, my peace I give you, look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will.' It is a powerful reminder of the importance of seeking peace and unity within the Church.

As I reflect on my experience, I am reminded that true peace and unity can only be achieved when we put aside our differences and come together in faith. The Catholic Church's commitment to promoting Christian unity is a beacon of hope for all people, regardless of their denomination or background.
