Configure PostgreSQL for PokerTracker

If you have trouble configuring PostgreSQL for PokerTracker, this guide will walk you through the process step-by-step.

Firstly, ensure that PostgreSQL is installed and running properly on your system. To do this, go to Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL 9.0 and right-click 'Start Service' and 'Run as Administrator'. For Windows Vista & Windows 7 (with UAC enabled), simply go to Start -> Programs -> PostgreSQL 9.0 -> Start Service.

For users with UAC disabled on their system (Windows XP, 2000, or Windows Vista & Windows 7 without UAC enabled), you may need to temporarily give Read & Write permission to everyone in order to access or edit certain files such as PostgreSQL config or log files.

Once installed and running properly, check the list of running processes in your Task Manager by hitting 'CTRL-ALT-DELETE' to open it. Scroll down the list and make sure that you see several processes named postgres.exe. Under the Processes tab, ensure that Show processes from all users is checked.

For Windows Vista & Windows 7 (with UAC enabled), click on the Show processes from all users button. This will display a comprehensive list of running services containing the word Postgre.

Alternatively, you can use the Command Line interface to check if PostgreSQL is running. Open a Command Prompt by pressing Start, selecting Run, typing 'CMD' and clicking Enter. In the Command Prompt window, type 'net start | find 'Postgre'' and press Enter.
